We are a Celtic band featuring vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin, and bodhran. Our songs come from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, and America.
We play mostly traditional Irish, Scottish, and English folk music, and our styles range from gentle ballads of love to lively songs of drinking and other mischief. Lovely and mysterious airs such as “She Moved Through the Fair” soothe the senses and invite the soul into wistful contemplation. Laments like “The Fields of Athenry” move us and bring out our innate compassion. Drinking songs such as “Here’s a Health to the Company” celebrate friendship and gratitude for the kindness of our fellow man. With these songs and others like them, we strive to transport our audience to a realm full of passion, longing, and hope, a world much like the one our ancestors once knew.
Russ, Josh, and Colleen met in the Celtic music scene in Santa Cruz, California, and began playing as a trio at open mic at The Poet and the Patriot in 2013. In the summer of 2014, they started practicing more seriously and performed at Mythos Firehouse Gallery for their “Retold Tales” exhibit. Since that time, they have performed at various venues in Santa Cruz, Davenport, and Monterey, as well as on “Friday Folk-Off” on KKUP in Cupertino.
Colleen Duncan fell in love with fairy tales and Celtic music while she was growing up in Albany, California. She has recorded music with Falling You, performed in rock and blues concerts, and sung in traditional Celtic sessions and gigs in the East and South Bay. As a child, she starred in a musical theater production of “Annie.”
Josh Reilly developed his guitar style playing with “various garage bands,” playing in a Santa Cruz jazz trio, and studying with Celtic guitarist Bill Coulter. He performs guitar and mandolin in Celtic sessions and gigs in Santa Cruz County and in the East Bay.
Russ Bennett went to work overseas at the age of 20 playing percussion to entertain military personnel. In addition to the bodhran Irish frame drum, he plays the Brazilian pandiero, Middle Eastern darbuka, tar, congo, cajon, and bongo, as well as the full drum set.
Bassist and guitarist Martin Krilanovich, a true Santa Cruz native, grew up playing music with his brothers, and has played with different bands, including the Celtic group Innisfree. He has also performed and arranged sound for concerts at Mount Madonna School.
